AEGEAN COAST
After five days in Istanbul we headed for Gallipoli. Then we caught the ferry from Eceabat to Canakkale and rode on to Troy, having been fed and watered on the ferry we arrived at Troy (Troie). We stopped at the entrance and a man cycled up to us and told about his restaurant which we had just passed and informed us that he had a camping place behind his restaurant, he offered camping for just six euro's per night, so we looked around the ruins of Troy and then we stopped to camped at his
restaurant. A family from Belgium also stopped and camped for the night, and we enjoyed a good social evening. The next morning we headed to Izmir and then on to Selcuk, we stopped in Selcuk to look at the map and decide whether to stay in Selcuk or Kusadasi or to head on for Marmaris. As we were looking at our map a Volkswagon minibus stopped beside us and offered us accommodation, ''The Kiwi Pension, English owned, we have swimming pool, only 10,000,000 each'' the swimming pool had the decision made for us as the temperature was 42 degrees, so we followed him to the Kiwi pension, we ended up paying 24,000,000 (£9.50) for a room with a balcony, a ceiling fan, fridge and breakfast. Once we had parked the bikes behind the pension and chucked our gear in our room we got into his minibus and he drove us to the swimming pool which was about two Kilometres away on the family farm set in a grove of mandarin trees. The water in the pool was fed from their own well and was cool, clean and chlorine free. We ended our day by joining the family for a meal of jacket potatoes that had been cooking in a charcoal oven and some salad. An excellent way to end the day.
The next morning the man took us to the Roman ruins at Ephersis but as it would cost about £12 for us to get in we decided to just have look over the fence, (we are getting bored with looking at piles of rubble, Sorry old castle's and Roman, Greek, Trojan etc ruins), so we walked the Kilometre or so to the swimming pool to cool off before getting on the bikes and heading for Marmaris.
We encoutered more Turkish roadworks on the way to Marmaris, this involved a couple of miles with no asphalt, then the road was blocked, so we had to ride down the bank (about 5 metre's drop) then we rode along a dirt track and then rode back up the bank (not possible for van's truck's or buses), then we were riding on the freshly laid loose chipping's, this was no fun at all as the cars infront created so much dust that you could not see ten feet ahead, also they put down a very thick layer of chippings and do not bother to roll them down so the bike's were squirming around like a .................(the censorship police i.e. Jenny has just told me ''You can't write that!!!'', so you'll just have to use your imagination).

Anyway we eventually arrived in Marmaris to meet up with Adam letham and girlfreind Maz, we spent two night's here enjoying a few beer's!!! and catching up on some of the going's on back home, here we met seamus the Irish Kurdish Turk!!

After a couple of day's in Marmaris we left some bits we did not need with Adam to return to the UK and headed for Kas in the Lycian region.
