CAPPADOCIA
It felt so good to be back on the bike's again as we left Olympos and headed for Cappadocia, we had decided that we would stop overnight at Egirdir and have a quick look around as we had been advised that it was very nice here. We stayed on the island which is accessed by ride along the causeway which was built after the local Greek community was exchanged for Turks living in Greece. It was a bit quiet really, a small town on the banks of a big lake with the usual selection of ruin's/castle etc (Turkey has so many Ruin's that you get bored with looking at them) , Egirdir was relaxing but uninspiring, the next morning we loaded up and headed for Cappadocia.
The most interesting thing in Egirdir !!!!

When we arrived in Goreme (this is the best place to stay to tour the area) we found the highly recommended Kose pension, our own room, swimming pool etc for just £5 per night, the only downside was the bloody flies, there were so many that you just could not get away from the little bastard's.

Anyway enough about the bloody flies, Cappadocia is very unusual as it is an area of volcanic rock that was very porous, so the water has eroded the rock to form an unusual landscape, were there was some hard rock the porous rock below has not eroded thus leaving the fopmations pictured below. In the past people have cut out the rock to make their home's. Most of the people still living in these place's were moved out in the 1950's and 1960's on the ground's of safety.

Just arrived at the bus station at Goreme
Goreme is of course very much geared to the tourist so most thing's are 'tourist price', but we managed to find a resturant which we could haggle the price down to Turkish price, here we had a good meal including a bottle of wine for £6, not bad considering the bottle of wine accounted for half the cost, but you just have to treat yourself sometime's.

We spent two day's walking and riding around the Cappadocia area, visiting the underground city at Derinkuya, which was about 40 km's from Goreme, also the castle at Uchisar and many other places in the area, we also went for a hike along the Ihlara valley were we got ripped of for a donkey ride across the river
